A gastroenterologist and nutrition expert has highlighted the combination of apples and cinnamon as a “power duo” for liver health. This simple pairing is one of seven food recommendations shared by the expert to support this vital organ.
According to the specialist, “Apples give pectin (soluble fiber) and polyphenols.” This fiber is crucial for digestion and overall gut health. Cinnamon, he adds, “contains compounds studied for supporting insulin sensitivity and healthier lipid levels.”
This combination works to support the body’s metabolic processes, which reduces the overall load on the liver. The doctor also highlights raspberries for a similar reason, noting their fiber and anthocyanins help regulate blood sugar and fat processing.
The list features other important foods. Cranberries are key for the gut-liver axis. Pomegranates are rich in polyphenols that are suggested to calm inflammatory signals, protecting the liver from stress.
Beetroot is also on the list, cited for its betaine content which helps the liver process fat. Watermelon with lime is included for boosting blood flow. Finally, strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+) are recommended for their cardiometabolic benefits.
