New Sharjah-Oman Route Boosts Trade Efficiency, Reduces Transit to 35 Days

by admin477351

Sharjah has unveiled a new logistics corridor connecting with Oman, which has dramatically decreased cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This development is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency, reducing transportation expenses, and bolstering trade relations with Oman and other regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with key Omani ports, including Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, utilizing the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. Officials anticipate even shorter transit times as operations become more streamlined.

To promote the use of the corridor, Sharjah has implemented toll exemptions for cargo trucks that utilize designated routes from Oman. This initiative also includes expedited customs clearance, simplified cargo movement processes, and the option for businesses to complete customs formalities at inland container terminals, rather than at the border. Authorities are optimistic that these measures could lead to up to a 15% reduction in logistics costs, depending on the type of cargo and specific transportation needs.

The logistics corridor is particularly advantageous to manufacturers, as it speeds up the movement of both raw materials and finished goods. This aligns with Sharjah’s strategic goal to reinforce its role as a regional hub for logistics and manufacturing. With over 3,000 factories contributing about a quarter of the emirate’s GDP, the enhanced trade route is poised to increase exports and draw international investors eager to tap into markets across Africa, India, and Asia.

Launched on May 14, the corridor now supports cargo movement in both directions, thanks to coordinated customs procedures, real-time data sharing, and dedicated fast-track shipment lanes. This project is expected to significantly strengthen Sharjah’s economic position, offering a more attractive proposition for businesses looking to capitalize on the region’s growing trade networks.
