Expo City Dubai to Launch Green Innovation District in Major Sustainability Drive

by admin477351

Expo City Dubai is set to host a pioneering Green Innovation District — a key part of the UAE’s long-term sustainability strategy — designed to attract eco-friendly businesses, clean technology firms, and sustainable industries. Announced by Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq and Minister of State for International Co-operation Reem Al Hashimy, the initiative marks a national milestone toward integrating economic growth with environmental responsibility.

The district will feature eco-conscious manufacturing units, urban farming plots, and research facilities, creating a hub for collaboration between multinational corporations, startups, and academia. Companies promoting renewable energy, green packaging, sustainable mobility, and clean production methods will be eligible for the UAE’s first-ever “green licence,” which offers incentives such as reduced commercial space costs and access to an on-site green intellectual property office.

Global food giant Nestlé will relocate its regional headquarters to the district, joining local innovators like Palmade, which produces biodegradable cutlery from date palm leaves. The area’s circular design ensures industrial by-products from one factory can serve as inputs for another, aligning with the UAE’s food security and zero-waste goals.

Officials say the district will stimulate research, job creation, and youth participation while positioning Dubai as a global hub for sustainable technology. “This district will be more than buildings — it will be an ecosystem for collaboration and discovery,” said Minister bin Touq, emphasizing that the project reflects the UAE’s commitment to a green, future-ready economy.
