US officials are exploring a possible UN resolution to authorize a multinational force for Gaza, with high-level discussions scheduled in Qatar. However, this diplomatic push faces a major hurdle: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s demand for absolute veto power over the force’s composition.
Netanyahu declared Sunday that “Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us.” He claims this position is “acceptable to the United States,” which has ruled out sending its own troops.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, visiting Israel, confirmed the alignment. He stated the force must be “countries that Israel’s comfortable with” and that Hamas must be excluded from any future governance.
Netanyahu has already signaled this veto would be used to block Turkey.
Meanwhile, the fragile Trump-brokered truce is being tested. An Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp was condemned by Hamas as a “clear violation,” and a slow exchange of remains has prompted a warning from Donald Trump.
