In a bid to enhance its global aviation connections, Thailand is forging new alliances with carriers such as Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, while also upgrading its regional airport infrastructure to boost connectivity and attract tourists. This strategic move is expected to bolster Thailand’s position as a prime destination for international travelers.

Vietnam Airlines has recently inaugurated a direct flight service linking Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, commencing on July 2. This route operates four times a week and offers an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. The new service is designed to cater to the increasing number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Thailand, with more than 300,000 having traveled there in the first half of the year alone.

Flydubai is also expanding its footprint in Thailand, having launched daily flights from Dubai to Bangkok starting July 1. The airline plans to further enhance this connection by increasing the frequency to twice daily from September 15, thereby strengthening the travel links between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

As part of its efforts to improve regional connectivity, Thailand is set to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at several regional airports. This system aims to enhance air traffic management and operational efficiency, particularly in secondary cities. The initial rollout of AFIS is scheduled for Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans to extend the service to additional regional airports thereafter.
