The United Arab Emirates is taking a significant step forward in integrating artificial intelligence into its educational framework. The UAE Cabinet has sanctioned the adoption of an AI curriculum to be implemented across both public and private schools. This initiative aims to familiarize students with the core components of AI, such as data handling, algorithms, practical applications, associated risks, and ethical considerations. Additionally, an ambitious goal has been set to equip 22,000 teachers and educators with the skills necessary to incorporate AI into teaching methodologies, lesson planning, and curriculum development.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for educators to ensure that students are adequately prepared to face a future that is rapidly evolving. In tandem with this educational advancement, the Cabinet has also introduced a new AI advisory system. This system is designed to assist ministers by using 32 specialized AI assistants to evaluate policies and legislative proposals, assess their potential impacts, and draw on international best practices to make informed recommendations that align with the UAE’s national priorities.
In a parallel move to boost technological advancement, the Cabinet has approved a regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles. This framework sets out the procedures for testing, inspecting, and licensing self-driving vehicles in the UAE. The regulations aim to promote cleaner modes of transportation and alleviate traffic congestion, aligning with broader environmental and infrastructural improvement goals.
Progress in digital transformation is another area where the UAE government has reported substantial achievements. Over the past year, hundreds of millions of digital transactions have been executed through government services, marking a significant stride in the country’s digital evolution. Numerous digital transformation projects have also been implemented, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved governance and public service delivery.
In addition to these technological advancements, the Cabinet has approved a National Ecotourism Policy and reviewed the ongoing National Strategy to Combat Desertification for 2022–2030. These initiatives are focused on environmental conservation efforts, including ecosystem protection, land rehabilitation, and preservation of indigenous vegetation, illustrating a comprehensive approach to sustainability and ecological balance.
