A tragic incident in the Strait of Hormuz resulted in the death of one crew member and injuries to eight others after two oil tankers operated by the UAE were attacked. According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the vessels named Mombasa and Al Bahyah were hit by Iranian cruise missiles while navigating the critical maritime passage.

The attack led to the death of an Indian crew member on the Mombasa. Of the eight injured, four sustained serious injuries, highlighting the severity of the assault. The UAE has strongly denounced the missile strike, labeling it a grave breach of international law that jeopardizes both regional security and the safety of maritime navigation.

Efforts to rescue crew members were swift, with Oman’s Maritime Security Centre confirming that 18 individuals from Al Bahyah were saved, though three remain unaccounted for. Meanwhile, India has confirmed the presence of 30 Indian nationals among the 46 crew members on both vessels. The Indian government has condemned the attack, offered condolences for the loss of life, and is actively cooperating with local authorities to support those impacted.

This latest escalation has intensified tensions in the region, prompting concerns over the security of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. The incident has also influenced global oil markets, pushing oil prices to their highest levels in four weeks, as fears over the safety of this vital waterway continue to grow.
