Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Ottawa, marking the beginning of an official visit to Canada aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and fostering strategic cooperation. This visit builds on the longstanding partnership between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada, with both nations looking to deepen economic ties and explore opportunities for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled is expected to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The discussions between the two leaders will focus on expanding economic collaboration, increasing investment, and advancing cooperation in key sectors. This initiative follows recent high-level talks between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney, which centered on strengthening economic and technological partnerships.
Accompanying the Crown Prince is a high-level UAE delegation, including Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. Their presence underscores the UAE’s commitment to deepening its relationship with Canada across various strategic industries.
A significant milestone in UAE-Canada relations was the finalization of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in July 2026. The agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and improve market access for goods, services, and investments, creating new business opportunities for both countries. The partnership supports cooperation in sectors such as energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports, furthering UAE’s $50 billion investment commitment announced during Carney’s visit to the UAE.
The UAE stands as Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, making their relationship a crucial part of Canada’s regional trade strategy. Both nations are eager to expand commercial opportunities and attract investment while strengthening cooperation in advanced technologies and other emerging industries.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada follows his recent official trip to Greece, where discussions similarly focused on strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation. The UAE also unveiled plans for an additional €15 billion investment in Greece, reflecting its broader efforts to enhance strategic partnerships and expand global investment opportunities.
