The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed support for a recent call by the United States for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan, emphasizing the need for renewed political efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict. UAE Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to international efforts aimed at ending the fighting and establishing a political process that leads to a civilian government.
In a statement, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the importance of protecting civilians and addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan. He underscored the necessity of halting hostilities and engaging in a comprehensive political dialogue to facilitate a peaceful resolution.
The UAE has also advocated for the expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to cover the entire Sudanese territory. The rationale behind this proposal is to curb the influx of weapons into the region, thereby enhancing civilian protection amid the conflict.
