Last year, bilateral trade reached over Dh57 billion ($15.52 billion), solidifying the UAE’s position as Germany’s foremost trading partner in the Gulf region.
German enterprises have a significant presence in the UAE, with approximately 2,000 companies operating within the country. This includes prominent names like BMW, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, and Deutsche Bahn. The energy sector has seen notable cooperation as well, with both countries engaging in initiatives related to renewable energy, climate action, decarbonization, and energy security. In 2022, an agreement was signed between the UAE and Germany to bolster energy security and industrial collaboration, involving the supply of UAE liquefied natural gas to Germany and joint efforts on clean energy and climate projects.
Beyond the realms of trade and energy, the partnership extends into research, technology, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges, reflecting the multifaceted nature of UAE-German relations. A strategic partnership agreement was formalized in 2004, enhancing political ties and covering areas such as regional security, economic cooperation, and research endeavors.
